Find a painter near you

Interior and exterior painting, preparation, filling, and the repaint between tenancies.

Also called fundi wa rangi, decorator or spray painter.

Painting is mostly preparation. The visible part — rolling colour onto a wall — is the last and quickest stage, and a quote that seems cheap is usually one that has skipped the filling, sanding and priming that makes the finish last.

When you post, say the number of rooms or the rough wall area, whether the surface is bare plaster, previously painted, or flaking, and whether you want the ceilings done too. Ceilings are frequently left out of a quote and then argued about afterwards.

Say whether paint is on your account or the painter's. Both are normal. What is not normal is finding out on the day.

  • Feature walls, stencilling and decorative finishes

Writing the request

What to include so the offers come back usable

  • Number of rooms, or rough wall area
  • Whether ceilings, doors and skirting are included
  • The current state of the surface — bare, sound, flaking, or damp
  • Photos of the worst area, not the best
  • Whether the space will be empty or furnished and occupied

What moves the price

Why two quotes for the same job differ

  • Area, and how many coats the colour change needs
  • How much preparation the surface needs before anything is painted
  • Whether paint is on your account or included in theirs
  • Working height — a stairwell or a two-storey exterior needs scaffolding
  • Whether furniture has to be moved and covered

Help24 does not publish price ranges for painting. Quotes come from the painters themselves, and the number you agree is the number the payment is held against.

Before work starts

What to check with a painter

  • Ask what preparation is included, specifically — filling, sanding, priming
  • Agree the exact paint: brand, type, finish, and how many coats
  • If there is damp, fix the source before painting, or you will pay twice
  • Ask who covers floors and furniture and who cleans up

How Help24 works

Posting a painting job

1

Describe the job

Say what needs doing and where you are. Posting is free, and you are not committing to anything by posting.

2

Nearby painters send offers

Providers near you quote their own price. Nobody is assigned to you — you see the offers and you choose.

3

Agree the price first

Nothing starts until you have accepted an offer. The number you agree is the number that gets held.

4

Pay by M-Pesa, released when it's done

Help24 holds the payment while the work happens. The provider can see it is there; neither side can move it until you confirm the job is finished.
