Construction is the category where the stakes are highest and the checks matter most. A bathroom renovation runs several trades in sequence, and the value a contractor adds over hiring each fundi yourself is the sequencing — and the accountability when one stage is wrong.
Contractors undertaking construction works in Kenya are required to register with the National Construction Authority, in classes tied to the value of work they may undertake. For anything structural, ask for the NCA registration and check the class covers your project.
Get the scope written down before anybody starts. Not a price — a scope: what is included, what is excluded, what happens to the debris, and who buys materials. Nearly every construction dispute traces back to that document not existing.
