Welding covers the steel around a Kenyan home: window grilles, a gate that has dropped on its hinges, a staircase railing, a stand for a water tank, a carport frame.
Fabrication work is quoted from sizes, so measure the opening before you post — width and height of the window, gate or gap. A photo taken square-on, with something for scale, does most of the rest.
Ask about the finish as well as the steel. Bare metal primed and painted is one price; galvanised or powder-coated is another and lasts considerably longer outdoors.

- Delivery, and getting something heavy up stairs

Before work starts
What to check with a welder
- Confirm whether the price includes fitting, or only fabrication
- For anything that people lean on — a balcony rail, a staircase — ask how it is fixed into the wall, not just how it is welded
- Agree the finish in writing; "painted" and "powder-coated" are not the same promise
- A NITA trade test certificate (Grade III is the artisan entry level, Grade I the highest) is the standard Kenyan proof of a trade. Plenty of excellent fundis work without one, so treat it as a bonus rather than a bar.
