Photography quotes vary on two things people forget to ask about: hours of coverage, and what you actually receive afterwards.
Edited images take far longer than the shoot. A photographer quoting a day's coverage with 40 edited images and one quoting the same day with 400 unedited files are doing different amounts of work, and the second is not the bargain it looks like.
Say what the pictures are for. Product shots for a website, portraits for a profile, and coverage of a wedding need different equipment, different lighting and, quite often, different photographers.

- Ask to see a full gallery from one event, not a highlights reel from twenty
- Agree the delivery date for edited images in writing
- Agree how the images may be used by both sides
- For a wedding or any one-off, ask what their backup plan is if they fall ill
