Plumbers in Mombasa

Leaks, blocked drains, taps, toilets, water tanks and pipework — the jobs that cannot wait until the weekend.

Plumbing in Mombasa

What is different about plumbing here

Mombasa plumbing has two recurring themes that inland cities do not share. The first is scale: coastal groundwater is hard, and it builds up inside instant showers, mixer cartridges, kettles and pipework far faster than it does in Nairobi. A tap that has lost pressure here has often furred up rather than failed.

The second is age. Much of Mvita and Old Town is built on pipework laid decades ago, in buildings that have been subdivided repeatedly since. Tracing a leak in an older island property frequently takes longer than fixing it, which is worth knowing before you accept a quote that looks unusually quick.

What people post

Plumbing jobs posted in Mombasa

Every one of these can be posted as a one-off job to Mombasa providers.

  • Leaking taps, mixers and shower heads
  • Blocked kitchen sinks, basins, showers and toilets
  • Burst or leaking pipes, including pipework inside walls
  • Running or non-flushing toilet cisterns
  • Water tank installation, cleaning and float valve repairs
  • Booster pumps that have stopped priming
  • Sink, basin, bathtub and shower installation
  • Water heater and instant shower plumbing connections
  • New pipework for a kitchen or bathroom refit

Writing the request

What to include so the offers come back usable

  • Where the water is coming from, and whether it is still running now
  • Whether you have been able to shut the water off at the mains
  • A photo of the fitting or the wet patch — this is the single biggest thing that improves the offers you get
  • Whether you are on mains supply, a borehole, a tank, or a mix
  • Whether the property is a house, a flat, or a rental you do not own

What moves the price

Why two quotes for the same job differ

  • Whether it is a repair, a replacement, or new pipework
  • Whether parts are needed and who is buying them — say if you already have the tap or the cistern
  • How accessible the pipework is: exposed under a sink, or chased into a wall or slab
  • Whether it is urgent enough to need someone the same evening
  • How far the plumber has to travel to reach you

Help24 does not publish price ranges for plumbing. Quotes come from the plumbers themselves, and the number you agree is the number the payment is held against.

Before work starts

What to check with a plumber

  • Ask what they think is wrong before they start, and whether the quote covers parts
  • For anything involving digging up a slab or re-routing pipework, ask who makes good the tiling or plaster afterwards
  • A NITA trade test certificate (Grade III is the artisan entry level, Grade I the highest) is the standard Kenyan proof of a trade. Plenty of excellent fundis work without one, so treat it as a bonus rather than a bar.
  • Agree the price on Help24 before work begins — that is the number the escrow holds, and it is the number that protects you if the job changes halfway

How Help24 works

Posting a plumbing job

1

Describe the job

Say what needs doing and where you are. Posting is free, and you are not committing to anything by posting.

2

Nearby plumbers send offers

Providers near you quote their own price. Nobody is assigned to you — you see the offers and you choose.

3

Agree the price first

Nothing starts until you have accepted an offer. The number you agree is the number that gets held.

4

Pay by M-Pesa, released when it's done

Help24 holds the payment while the work happens. The provider can see it is there; neither side can move it until you confirm the job is finished.
