Appliance & Tech Repair

Find an appliance technician near you

Fridges, washing machines, cookers, microwaves, water heaters and the appliance that just stopped.

Also called fridge repair, washing machine repair, cooker repair or fundi wa friji.

Appliance repair is worth posting before you assume something is finished. A fridge that has stopped cooling is frequently a relay, a fan or a thermostat rather than a compressor, and the difference between those two diagnoses is the difference between a repair and a replacement.

Put the brand and model in the post. It is usually on a sticker inside the door, behind the drawer, or on the back panel. Technicians quote far more accurately when they know whether the part is one they can get today.

Ask how a call-out fee is handled. Many technicians charge to come and diagnose, and most will set that against the repair if you go ahead — but that is a question for before they arrive, not after.

Writing the request

What to include so the offers come back usable

  • Brand, model and rough age
  • Exactly what it does and does not do now
  • Any error code on the display
  • Any noise, smell or leak
  • Whether it has been repaired before, and what was done

What moves the price

Why two quotes for the same job differ

  • Whether the fault is diagnosed or still to be found
  • The part itself, and whether it is available locally
  • Whether a call-out fee applies and whether it is set against the repair
  • Whether the appliance must be taken away to a workshop
  • Gas work on a fridge or freezer, which is specialist

Help24 does not publish price ranges for appliance repair. Quotes come from the appliance technicians themselves, and the number you agree is the number the payment is held against.

Before work starts

What to check with an appliance technician

  • Ask what the diagnosis is and what the part costs before you agree to a repair
  • Ask whether the repair carries any warranty, and for how long
  • If the appliance is still under manufacturer warranty, an independent repair will usually void it
  • For gas cookers, ask about the gas connection specifically

How Help24 works

Posting an appliance repair job

1

Describe the job

Say what needs doing and where you are. Posting is free, and you are not committing to anything by posting.

2

Nearby appliance technicians send offers

Providers near you quote their own price. Nobody is assigned to you — you see the offers and you choose.

3

Agree the price first

Nothing starts until you have accepted an offer. The number you agree is the number that gets held.

4

Pay by M-Pesa, released when it's done

Help24 holds the payment while the work happens. The provider can see it is there; neither side can move it until you confirm the job is finished.
