Appliance & Tech Repair

Find a computer technician near you

Laptops and desktops: slow machines, failed drives, screens, keyboards, viruses and setup.

Also called laptop repair, PC repair, IT support or data recovery.

Most computer posts are one of four things: it is slow, it will not start, something is physically broken, or something has to be set up.

Say which, and say what changed just before. A laptop that has been slow for a year and a laptop that became slow last Tuesday are usually different problems with different fixes.

If there is data on the machine you cannot lose, put that in the first line. It changes the order a technician works in — and a repair that would have been routine becomes a recovery job that has to be handled carefully first.

Writing the request

What to include so the offers come back usable

  • Make, model and rough age
  • What it does now, and what changed just before
  • Any error message, word for word
  • Whether there is data on it that must be kept
  • Whether you need it back by a particular day

What moves the price

Why two quotes for the same job differ

  • Diagnosis, particularly for a machine that will not start at all
  • Parts, which for laptop screens and batteries are model-specific
  • Data recovery, which is priced on its own and never guaranteed
  • Whether the work is on site or the machine goes to a workshop
  • Software reinstall and setting everything up again afterwards

Help24 does not publish price ranges for computer repair. Quotes come from the computer technicians themselves, and the number you agree is the number the payment is held against.

Before work starts

What to check with a computer technician

  • Back up first if the machine still starts — do not assume a repair preserves anything
  • For data recovery, ask what happens to the price if nothing is recovered
  • Ask about warranty on replacement parts
  • Remove or note anything confidential before handing the machine over

How Help24 works

Posting a computer repair job

1

Describe the job

Say what needs doing and where you are. Posting is free, and you are not committing to anything by posting.

2

Nearby computer technicians send offers

Providers near you quote their own price. Nobody is assigned to you — you see the offers and you choose.

3

Agree the price first

Nothing starts until you have accepted an offer. The number you agree is the number that gets held.

4

Pay by M-Pesa, released when it's done

Help24 holds the payment while the work happens. The provider can see it is there; neither side can move it until you confirm the job is finished.
