This is the category where the checks matter more than the price, and it is worth saying so plainly: you are inviting somebody into your home to look after your children.
Meet them before the first booking. Ask for identification, take a copy, and ask for references from families they have actually worked for — then call those families. A good sitter expects all of this and will not be offended by it.
In the post, give ages and numbers of children, the hours, and anything a sitter genuinely needs to know: allergies, medication, a routine that matters, or a child who does not settle easily.
