Caregiving posts need to be honest about the level of care required, because it determines who is qualified to answer. Companionship and help around the house is one thing; wound care, catheters, injections, oxygen or a patient who cannot move unaided is clinical work.
If any nursing task is involved, say so and ask for the caregiver's training and registration. A trained nurse or a certified community health worker is a different professional from a companion carer, and the difference is not something to discover during a crisis.
Be clear about hours, and whether it is live-in. Live-in care raises real questions about accommodation, rest days and time off that are much better settled at the start.

- Check identification and keep a copy
- Start with a short trial period while family are around
- Write down the routine, the medication and the emergency contacts, and keep it where the caregiver can see it
