Hire a driver

Personal drivers, airport runs, long-distance trips and standby cover.

Also called personal driver, chauffeur, dereva or standby driver.

Most driver posts on Help24 are for a specific trip: an airport run, a journey upcountry, a day of errands, or somebody to drive the family car while you are away.

The first thing to settle is whose vehicle it is. A driver for your car and a driver with their own vehicle are two different services at two different prices, and it is worth saying which you need in the first line.

For long trips, be explicit about who pays for fuel, tolls and the driver's overnight stay. That is the single most common source of a disagreement at the end of a journey.

Anything in this list can be posted as a single job — you do not need an ongoing arrangement to use Help24.

  • Long-distance and upcountry trips
  • A driver for your own car, by the day or the week
  • Standby and relief driving cover
  • School runs and regular scheduled trips
  • Errands, deliveries and shopping runs
  • Event and wedding driving
  • Moving a vehicle from one town to another

Writing the request

What to include so the offers come back usable

  • Whose vehicle, and what type it is — saloon, SUV, pickup, manual or automatic
  • Pick-up point, destination and times
  • Whether it is one trip, a full day, or ongoing
  • Who pays fuel, tolls, parking and any overnight stay
  • Whether the driver needs to wait, and roughly how long

What moves the price

Why two quotes for the same job differ

  • Distance and hours, including waiting time
  • Whether the driver provides the vehicle
  • Night driving and very early starts
  • Overnight trips, which need accommodation
  • Whether fuel is on your account or theirs

Help24 does not publish price ranges for driver. Quotes come from the drivers themselves, and the number you agree is the number the payment is held against.

Before work starts

What to check with a driver

  • See the driving licence before the trip and check it has not expired
  • For a driver using your vehicle, confirm your insurance covers other drivers
  • For anything carrying paying passengers, a PSV licence is the relevant one
  • Agree the fuel and expenses arrangement in writing before setting off

How Help24 works

Posting a driver job

1

Describe the job

Say what needs doing and where you are. Posting is free, and you are not committing to anything by posting.

2

Nearby drivers send offers

Providers near you quote their own price. Nobody is assigned to you — you see the offers and you choose.

3

Agree the price first

Nothing starts until you have accepted an offer. The number you agree is the number that gets held.

4

Pay by M-Pesa, released when it's done

Help24 holds the payment while the work happens. The provider can see it is there; neither side can move it until you confirm the job is finished.
